Formula
Everything is converted to an annual figure first, then divided back out: annual ÷ 12 for monthly, ÷ 26 for biweekly, ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year) for hourly.

Why biweekly and semi-monthly are not the same

Paid every two weeks means 26 pay periods a year. Paid twice a month means 24. The annual total is identical, but each biweekly cheque is smaller, and twice a year you receive three cheques in one month. Budgeting monthly on a biweekly cheque is a common way to end up short.

The weeks-per-year field matters more than it looks

Salaried employees with paid leave are effectively paid for 52 weeks. Hourly workers without paid leave are not: two unpaid weeks cuts annual pay by nearly four percent. When comparing an hourly offer to a salaried one, set this honestly or the comparison flatters the hourly job.

These are gross figures

Nothing here is deducted. Income tax, payroll tax, health premiums and retirement contributions all come out before the money reaches you, and the gap between gross and net is usually substantial. Use this to compare offers on a like-for-like basis, not to plan a monthly budget.

Frequently asked questions

How many work hours are in a year?

At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, 2,080. Deduct unpaid leave from that if it applies to you.

How do I compare an hourly job to a salaried one?

Convert both to annual, then account for what differs: paid leave, health coverage, retirement matching and whether overtime is paid. The headline figures are rarely the whole comparison.

Does this include overtime?

No. Use the overtime calculator for a week that includes premium hours.
